High-End vs. High-Street
Foundation Fight: Estee Lauder Double Wear to Go Foundation vs. L’Oreal True Match Foundation
Estee Lauder Double Wear to Go Foundation
First off is the Estee Lauder Double Wear to Go Foundation which I purchased from Look Fantastic. After hearing countless people in and out of work singing its praises, I just knew I had to try it out. When I first applied it, I can honestly say that it was love at first sight. Easy to apply with a medium to full coverage, this foundation easily hid my imperfections, evened out my skin tone and stayed on all day without drying my skin. Below I am wearing shade ECRU...
L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation
The dupe foundation which was mentioned to me a few times was the L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation. I purchased a bottle from HQhair in shade 1.N Ivory after a foundation shade matching site said this was the closest to my Double Wear. One thing I definitely prefer about the L'Oreal is that one bottle lasts so long! One bottle of this seems to last 3X longer than my Double Wear foundation and at half the price too, I really can't complain. I only need one pump to cover my whole face and it lasts all day long with a quick spritz of Urban Decay Setting Spray.
What's the Verdict? As much as I love my Double Wear foundation, I think that L'Oreal True Match Foundation is a pretty safe match. The only issue I had with it is I could feel slight oilyness around my nose area at the end of the day but it isn't visible. At half the price and one bottle lasting so much longer, I would be a fool to buy Estee Lauder Double Wear for every day! However, I'll always have some Double Wear stashed away for special occasions.
Primer Palter: Murad Invisiblur Primer vs. GOSH Velvet Touch Foundation Primer
Murad Invisiblur PrimerThe Murad Invisiblur Primer is one of my favourite primers ever. It applies so smoothly, contains SPF to protect your face and makes your skin look flawless, the only thing which makes me want to cry is the price tag. At £55 a pop, it's not exactly something which can be replaced straight away when you run out without your bank account feeling the sting.
GOSH Velvet Touch Foundation PrimerPurchased from Superdrug, the GOSH Velvet Touch Foundation Primer is a decent price for quite a lot of product. When I first began using it, I absolutely adored it and it made my face incredibly soft, but towards the end of the bottle, I encountered a problem... The last quarter of the bottle I had to bin as every time I went to use it, the consistency became gritty on my face and came off in chunks rather than absorbing in, gross!
The Verdict:Sorry GOSH, Murad wins here, purely for the fact that I had to waste so much primer. Even though Murad won this one, I can't see myself parting with £55 again for some primer so I'll be continuing my search for the perfect dupe. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
Hair Tie Havoc: Invisibobble vs. Primark Regular Hair Ties
Super comfy, durable and easy to use, the Invisibobble is one of my bedtime staples. I always use one of these every night to tie my hair up in a ponytail as when I take it out in the morning, I never get a single kink! As someone who has to spend a ridiculous amount of time straightening my hair, I don't want a bobble ruining that and this is the only one which has ever saved me. Not only that, they last a lot longer than regular bobbles, I've yet to snap one of these babies!
Primark Hair Ties
A pack of these in a variety of sizes are only £1.50 and an essential for my daily life. They're so strong and the colours blend easily with my hair so you can't see my hair tie. Whenever I'm leaving the house with my hair tied up, I always opt for one of these for the subtlety and reliability, knowing my hair will stay in the same place I tied it for as long as I need it to.
Primark, thank you, I love you. As trusty as my Invisibobble is for bedtime, I would never leave the house wearing one as it just doesn't blend into my hair at all, it's so obviously there! Of course, both hair ties have a special place in my beauty routine, but the regular hair ties are getting my vote as I use them just as much, if not more even though they're so cheap. Next time you're in Primark, pick up a pack, you won't regret it! Hair staples AF.
Lipsticks Locking Horns: Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Redrum vs. No.7 Moisture Drench in 990 Hot Paprika
Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Redrum
Everyone who knows me knows that Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks are my favourite. Ever. These things just last forever, look amazing, are so pigmented and just generally amazeballs. For some more detail in why I love them so much, you can check out why here.
No. 7 Moisture Drench in 990 Hot Paprika
This SPF 15 lipstick is a beautiful colour and is pretty pigmented, but I just can't vouch for it. I love that it keeps your lips feeling super soft and it's like wearing lip balm, but I think the colour is too bright for something so easily smudged. It just never seems to set on my lips and transfers onto everything, I cannot handle that Boots, why would you do this?!
The Obvious Verdict
If you haven't guessed already, the winner is without a doubt my trusty Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Redrum. I just have this loyal bond with all of my JS Liquid Lipsticks and I can't live without them. You can now purchase them from Beauty Bay in the UK to avoid shipping charges so grab some if you can!
